Pearls have slipped free from their own mythology. No longer confined to polished perfection or inherited elegance, they’re being reimagined by a new generation that wears them with a sense of contradiction. They’re paired with worn-in denim. Layered over oversized shirting. Interspersed with vintage charms. It’s jewellery that has transcended tradition – a reflection of instinct, memory and the stories we choose to carry.

That spirit sits at the heart of Pandora’s new Pandora Wonders collection. Co-created through the playful, irreverent lens of stylist Harry Lambert, the limited edition capsule collection abandons the notion that pearls are reserved for special occasions in favour of something altogether more expressive. Lambert reimagines organic forms under the influence of imagination – part creature, part object, part story. Here, organic freshwater baroque pearls meet sculptural 14k gold plating and unexpected proportions. They’re designed to be stacked, layered and worn with personality.

It’s a philosophy that feels naturally aligned with Sydney-based model, DJ and creative Yvonne (@seohbn). Her wardrobe is guided by curiosity rather than convention, balancing vintage finds with contemporary silhouettes and heirloom-worthy pieces with everyday essentials. Jewellery, too, has become a personal archive: a Tahitian pearl discovered at sixteen carries the same significance as a lucky cuff picked up while travelling or a charm chosen simply because it made her smile.

In conversation with RUSSH, Yvonne reflects on the memories woven through her jewellery collection, the freedom of embracing excess over perfection, and the new pearl pieces in her collection offering a fresh perspective…

Pearls are no longer just for your grandmother’s jewellery box. When did you first fall in love with them?

I took a trip to Tahiti when I was 16 years old, and the black pearls you’ve perhaps seen are only found in that region (Tahitian black pearl). One of my friends was wearing a necklace made out of them and it really made me see pearls outside of the context of an older woman’s jewellery box.

Are you someone who puts jewellery on first and builds the outfit around it, or is it always the finishing touch?

It depends on the size of the jewellery. If it’s a chunky, dramatic necklace you kind of have to style the outfit around the piece, no?

PANDORA earrings, charms (worn on earrings) and rings.

The Pandora Wonders Collection reimagines pearls with a contemporary edge. Which piece immediately spoke to you, and why?

My connection to Pandora has always been through the charms. High school was essentially a contest of who had the most charms on their bracelet. With that in mind, I’d have to go with the Pufferfish Dangle Charm. I think the anatomic surrealism of the pufferfish just makes it the perfect animal to lean into the campy-ness of our contemporary, surrealist humour. I also forget pufferfish exist and then I see one and I’m instantly ‘charmed’ again (lol).

Is there a trick to making pearls feel effortless rather than overly polished?

Make it messyyy. A singular neat row of pearls is classic but so intentional. Pearls can be loud in the best way, so you may as well lean into it. When I picture pearls it’s on someone who is wearing rows and rows with a woody-floral perfume, a ruffled dress, a big bag and big hair. Effortless doesn’t have to mean minimalist.

Jewellery often becomes part of our personal story. Are you someone who collects pieces for the memories attached to them, or do you choose them purely because they inspire you in the moment?

With time, all of my jewellery becomes sentimental even if I can’t figure out why I wanted it in the moment. I purchased a silver cuff in Da Nang at the end of last year because it had horses embossed all around it and I just thought it was cute. I completely forgot that I’m a Horse in the Chinese Zodiac and then 2026 came around and everybody was talking about how it was the Year of the Horse. Now it’s my good luck cuff!

MADELYN NICHOLS skirt; PANDORA necklaces (worn on back and around waist), charms (worn on necklaces) and rings.

Are you someone who likes to stack and layer your jewellery, or do you prefer to let one piece do all the talking?

To be frank, I used to stack and layer, but as I get older the less bothered I am. Both are fun and depending on the occasion, sometimes I wear all my rings or none at all.

If you could style the Pandora Wonders Collection on anyone – real or fictional – who would it be, and what would they be wearing?

My forever It Girl will be the 90s K-Pop artist Lee Hyori. I would style her in a stack of gold charm bracelets loaded with charms like the Pearl Submarine Dangle Charm, the Articulated Fish Dangle Charm, and the Padlock Pearl Dangle Charm. She’d also wear the Baroque Pearl Puffy Fish Pendant Necklace.

PANDORA earrings, charm (worn on earring) and rings.

If you had to pick one film, book or artwork that makes you want to dive straight into the ocean, what would it be?

I’m watching When Life Gives You Tangerines right now. It’s a Korean limited series on Netflix set in Jeju-do. The lovers fight in a field of canola flowers, they run around on the cliffs near the ocean, and eat fish with every meal.

BIANCA SPENDER dress; PANDORA earring, necklace, charms (worn on necklace) and rings.

What’s one rule of styling you’re always happy to break?

Colour theory is a lie. Sometimes I want to look gaunt.

Are you someone who collects references, or do you prefer to trust your eye?

I’m a huge book worm and I love movies so I think I’m always collecting references. I think that informs my eye and overall taste so I guess a mix of both!

MADRE NATURA bra and skirt; model’s own briefs; PANDORA earring, necklaces, bracelet and charms (worn on necklaces).

Pandora Wonders will be available in limited quantities at select Pandora stores and on the Pandora website from 8 July 2026.
