It’s no secret that we want to cocoon ourselves in something warm throughout the winter months. And few fabrics feel as sumptuous or well-suited to the task as suede.

Much like a great pair of jeans or that knit that has survived winter after winter, a suede jacket has become one of those wardrobe staples that’s hard to argue with. It’s soft (literally) but still structured, practical, polished but not precious (provided you’ve protect it with a good leather spray that is), and has a knack for making even the simplest outfit look that little bit more put together.

If decades gone by tell us anything, it’s that the beauty of a suede jacket is that it doesn’t really belong to one aesthetic. It can feel distinctly 70s thrown over something flared, but has the aura of a 90s supermodel when paired with a white T-shirt and straight-leg jeans. And while a great leather jacket certainly has a place in any well-stocked wardrobe, suede has a softness to it — both visually and literally – that leather just can’t replicate. Recent runways have also made the suede revival impossible to ignore. Then, at Spring Summer 2026, Tod’s proved the fabric isn’t reserved for the colder months alone, sending suede trench coats down the runway that felt just as effortless as their winter counterparts.
