Some brands are so special, so unique, so impossibly cool, that all you can do is simply bear witness to their greatness. And that’s kind of how we feel about Matières Fécales (aka Fecal Matter), the Montreal-born, now Paris-based fashion house helmed by artist duo Hannah Rose Dalton and Steven Raj Bhaskaran.
The avant-garde couple – who met while studying pattern-making at LaSalle College in Montreal – originally launched the brand as a creative and social concept back in 2016, exploring radical self-expression and “post-human aesthetics”, but have since expanded into a fully fledged atelier in France. They’ve been backed by the incubator division of Comme des Garçons’ Dover Street Market Paris, and since had their highly anticipated debut at Paris Fashion Week in 2025, gaining recognition from the Fédération de la Haute Couture.
This month alone the brand has gone from strength to strength, finding their way onto the red carpet via Zendaya’s The Odyssey premiere look (complete with couture angel wings and a soft glam makeup look being endlessly recreated on TikTok right now), and now, model muse Gabbriette wore a custom Haute Couture Bridal look from the brand to her wedding ceremony. Call her Gabbriette, we’re so inspired.
