The 90s-esque kitten heels we’re wearing in 2026

Like so many favourites of the 90s, in recent years, the kitten heel has shed its modest reputation and walked its way back into the cultural conversation. No longer just a “sensible” option, the kitten heel is now unapologetically chic — a pointed symbol of elegance with just the right amount of edge.

If you ask me, the height of a kitten heel hits that sweet spot: it’s tall enough to lengthen the leg without doing too much (fellow tall girls will know what I mean), and low enough to wear all day (and night). It’s also one of the more practical shoe trends to fall into fashion’s favour in recent years. You can pair them with a pencil skirt and run to a meeting, offset the polish with jeans and an oversized shirt for a weekend lunch, or slip into a silk dress and wear them to a bar. Bonus points, you can also take them off at the end of the night without wincing.

Designers have taken note. In Autumn Winter 2023, Miu Miu debuted a take on the trend that would become an instant hit: a pointed toe kitten heel featuring multiple skinny buckle straps. It was embraced by Miu Miu’s loyal fanbase with the same ferver as the now-iconic sheer polka-dot skirts and viral no-pants trend.

Other designers have followed suit. The Row, ever loyal to its minimalist roots, delivered kitten heels that feel more like wearable sculptures — soft nappa leather, curved lines, and just the right amount of negative space. Khaite’s version is similalrly sleek and polished, with strappier styles in red, brown, or black for the summer, and a closed pointed-toe pump in patent leather for cooler temperatures.

And if you’re not after something new, vintage is (unsurprisingly) a goldmine for kitten heels. Early 2000s Dior and Prada pairs are dominating resale platforms like The Real Real and Depop, often found in open-toed silhouettes (very Carrie Bradshaw), pastel satins, and iconic monograms.
