I stayed here because: I’ve always wanted to experience one of the world’s most iconic rail journeys and discover Scotland’s spectacular landscapes with the comfort of a moving luxury hotel
My last visit was: My first visit, a dream come true!
What I loved about the room: The feeling of stepping into another era. My cabin was beautifully appointed, intimate yet incredibly comfortable, and waking up to misty landscapes and rolling Highlands outside the window felt surreal. Especially at dawn when the sun would come down and the rain would start to pour a bit. It created incredible rainbows.
Amenities worth a mention: The Dior Spa carriage, the elegant Observation Car, and the impeccable onboard service that made every moment feel effortless. The staff is noticeably one of the best in the world, so friendly yet five stars. Also, the activities we were offered to participate in were incredible: fly fishing, clay pigeons or hiking in the woods.
It’s the details that count: Fresh flowers, polished wood interiors, tartan touches, beautiful menus, planners written and disposed of in our rooms every day, personalised gifts with our initials…
Room service order: A Scottish breakfast with haggis and porridge with cream enjoyed in my cabin while watching the Highlands unfold outside my window.
Places nearby: The Scottish Highlands, ancient castles, remote lochs, whisky distilleries, and charming villages that feel untouched by time.
The one thing I always return home with: Grocery specialties from the country: clotted cream, strawberry jam and brown sauce.
Galleries in the area: The National Galleries of Scotland in Edinburgh and the Royal Botanical Garden, so lush and colourful!
Dinner: The beautifully executed Royal Scotsman Train multi-course tasting menu celebrating the local exceptional produce from freshly caught scallops to Angus beef, all paired with outstanding wines and whiskies.
