Mary Beth Barone isn’t just funny – she’s also our style icon

Mary Beth Barone is about to become a household name – and not just amongst her devoted ‘Baronies’ (Ride listeners, we see you). The New York–based comedian has officially landed her first Netflix special, Galaxy Brain, and judging from the trailer, we’re going to be obsessed (bleep it).

It’s a fitting milestone for Barone, who has been making us laugh (and think) for several years now. If you’re not already familiar with her work, Barone is perhaps best known for co-hosting the podcast Ride, with her real-life BFF Benito Skinner. Together, they dissect everything from pop icons to NARS shade names, and have cultivated an extremely dedicated listnership over the years (the RUSSH office included).  Their chemistry also spills over into Skinner’s series Overcompensating, where Barone plays Grace, the snarky sister to Skinner’s lead — a role that shows off both her acting range and sharp comic instincts.

Galaxy Brain might be the first time Barone’s chops have been picked up by Netflix, but it’s not the first time she’s produced a comedy special. In April 2024, she self-released a 40-minute special, Thought Provoking, and has also headlined sold-out shows at the New York Comedy Festival, Netflix Is a Joke Fest, and the Edinburgh Fringe, and appeared twice on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

When she’s not honing her unique brand of dark satire, there’s another reason to love Barone – her style. Take Thought Provoking, for example. While we might be used to comics taking to the stage in jeans and a tee, for her first special, Barone opted for a vintage Versace chainmail slip dress. Yes, the same one worn previously by Kate Moss to a London charity gala in 1999.

These days, she’s also a regular on red carpets – both as a host and an attendee. Barone won over guests at the Golden Globes as an official red carpet correspondent just this year. Or, you might have spotted her darting between shows at New York Fashion Week, perhaps sporting a sparkly sheer gown by Tory Burch for the occasion.

Below, we’ve done the digging, and are bringing you the best of Mary Beth Barone’s inimitable style. You’re welcome.
