We are very much in the thick of Australian Fashion Week and thus far, it’s been an incredible display of local talent and creativity. From emerging designers to industry legends, the week has been big but very fulfilling.
The AFW beauty has also been a standout. Australia has a very distinct approach to hair and makeup – low touch, easy, fresh – and it’s been great to witness this through the lens of different designers.
From damp beach skin to undone knots to artful colour placement (gold!) the best of AFW beauty according to RUSSH, below.
Gold strokes

Makeup artist Victoria Baron showed us the impact of a singular colour washed across the eyelid at Bianca Spender. A gold shadow was lacquered on just below the brow while the rest of the face was dewy but bare (Baron used Weleda skincare). Easy but eye catching (literally).
Knotted hair

Diane Gorgievski made magic at Beare park: an undone knot at the nape of the neck. Slightly messy and loose, it was perfect against the fluid fabrications the brand is known for (silk, satin and crepe).
High gloss

One of my favourite beauty looks was actually the hair and skin at Nagnata. Sporty, healthy and super fresh, the skin (done by Victoria Baron for Weleda) was perfectly glossy while the hair was pulled back into an easy low pony tail. Proof that clean hair scraped back, artful concealer and great skincare is sometimes all you need.
Half knots and no mascara

More incredible skin inspiration, but this time a little more polished. Teneille Sorgiovanni used Make Up For Ever to create an immaculate base with strong browns and a subtle lip. Minimal blush and not much mascara. Taking notes.

The hair at Esse, by Gina Yates, was equally strong. Another scraped back ponytail double looped – perfect for the Esse woman who undoubtedly has somewhere important to be.
Smoky grunge

Fashion is embracing rock culture and the eyes at Courtney Zheng were aligned. Sean Brady used a dense black shadow to carve out oversized wings. Skin was super fresh thanks to Emma Lewisham skincare and minimal coverage.
Y2K shimmer

Brady created the most beautiful early 2000s makeup dreamscape for Alix Higgens. Pearly skin, pink lips and lots of lilac shimmer.
